Should I buy lol I mean bi my pregnant daughter a pistol?

for her baby shower gift? She's been mentioning guns lately. Or should I just let her have her grandfather's .303 and buy ammo for it?. Thank you.

P.S. Her sister and mother would take away her pistol if I did that. She's twenty years old.

Update:

Are you suggesting I purchase an additional firearm for my grand-daughter?

20 years old? As long as you don't violate state law any firearm that is in her possession is hers and her sister and mother has no right to forcefully remove her 2nd amendment right to bear arms and the consequential safety and sportsmanship of the practice.

Get ger both. Rifle with ammo is the gift at the shower. And take her to the store afterwards and let her talk to an experienced salesman who will help her match a pistol to her needs/wants. Any rifle will work for any shooter suggesting that his or her shooting experience is appropriate for the job/gun. But picking handguns is a lot like picking clothes. While all clothes cover people up, some do it better than others for certain people and certain weather. All pistols work but depending on the job your daughter has for it and her personal preference, 1 pistol may work better than another in the same price range. The salesman will help her identify the right gun for her and then you can buy it for her as a gift.

You're right the first "buy" lol. Does she shoot w/you? Getting a gun sounds more like a birthday or Christmas gift than a baby shower but it's whatever she wants or NEEDS. If she's not a girlie-type then, it'd be awesome to get (&show off) a gun. Being pregnant will make shooting the .303 a bit awkward but you'd only have to bye 'ha' ammo for her. Then the .303 will have a lot of sentimental value to her. That's worth it! I've been trying several pistols that fit my small hands, so that's a priority issue for her, so is a pistol's trigger tension. I chose not to buy a Bersa, with such a strong trigger it'd be too difficult in an emergency and no fun for just plinking.

If she doesn't know about gun laws you can be a great dad to explain she needs to take a gun safety course to ease your mind that she handles it well. Tell her sis and mom to keep their grubs off of the gun - it's hers. Being 20, your daughter can own a gun, she just can't buy a pistol till age 21; she can buy & own a rifle or shotgun at 18. Why is sis being such a ol' fuddy-duddy anyway? She can tend her own business.

One response to Q from another Yahoo Answers: You may purchase a shotgun or rifle at the age of 18 and handguns at the age of 21. Next part of the question is What can I own? Just about anything depending on local laws.

I have six daughters and they all own and shoot rifles, shotguns, pistols; pity the poor fool who tries to take away any of their firearms as they get quite tetchy and dangerous. Get her ammo for the 303 as it is an excellent round for everything; then get her a pistol for a backup. You might want to get her an 870, too.

I would spend money on something she could actually use for the baby and use the other gun as a bonus gag gift. Like by the way you'll probably need this too if its a girl.

Has she ever shot a gun? Then no, you should not buy her a gun. If you want to do something along those lines then buy her some instruction time at a gun range to familiarize her with firearms.

Bye all means, by her a gun.

I would not encourage a pregnant girl to be around shooting if its close buy. Not because of any possible lead exposure- but because of the noise. If she is only 20...she has plenty of time to shoot after baby is delivered.
