I know ash wood is good for burning in fireplaces but?

is it also suitable for doing hand carving or making wooden garden ornaments. We lost four big ash trees in the most recent storm here.

Lay out a large Plastic sheet-Enough to cover the floor around the fire-Then lay a Dust sheet on top of that! Scrape out the Ash onto the dust Sheet. Make sure there are No Drafts Blowing through the house-When You cleaned it out completely.Roll both the plastic and dust sheet together-Take them away from the house and empty!!

Yes It is perfect for that. It also takes stains and other finishes very well. Just remember it is extremely hard so use sharp tools for safety's sake.

an amazing idea, also cut the trees into suitable lengths and sell them to carvers and furniture makers.
