Can a headphone jack break headphones?

Question

I have the newest iPod touch 5th generation, 32 G and lately I've been having problems with the headphone jack and headphones. I buy new headphones like every other week and they work for a little bit and then one of the headphones stops working then shortly after that the next one stops working. I thought it was my headphone jack but when I connect the headphones to another device the headphones don't work, so I go and buy more headphone and connect them to my ipod and they work for a while then the process happens all over again so I was wondering, Is my headphone jack breaking the headphones? Is that possible? Because I want to buy beats be dr. Dre and if my headphone jack is breaking the connection then it would just be a wast.

I don't see how the jack can break them,.  Have you considered buying a higher quality brand of headphones?

I'm also curious if this is possible. I have gone through 3 pairs of headphones. They work fine at first, then one side goes out, then eventually they stop working all together. I use the headphones on my computer though.
