Did Anderson Silva throw the fight?

Not saying that he did throw it, but there was a lot of pressure from a lot of different directions to make him want to lose.

He's been fighting an average of 2 fights a year as a title holder with a lot of promotional events before and after. If he remained champion with a remaining contract of 10 fights that would be 5 years and he would be 43 years old by the time he could retire. The fastest way to get that contract over with would be for him to lose his belt and say he had no interest in big promotion fights any more. Dana White most likely won't want to book fights between new contenders and the man who obviously has the skill to be the champ, and would most likely attempt to buy out the remainder of his contract. Would it really make sense to see a 12-0 contender fight Anderson Silva for a chance to fight Weidman for the belt?

My roommate made an interesting point after the fight, he said "for a guy who at best, speaks broken english through a translator he seemed to do a good job working through that speech"

I don't know if the pressure of making fights interesting is what caused him to start fighting the way he has been, or if it is the frustration of being the champ yet having to be the aggressor in the fight because every contender that shows up plans a defence and doesn't push. If you want his belt you should have to show up and take it, you're the one with something to prove.

Anyway that's all over now and I will be interested to see where this goes from here.

You're wrong: "The disrespect he showed Chris Weidman was very uncharacteristic of him." Absolutely untrue. He's shown that same level of disrespect and contempt for at least his last 6 opponents. His (terrible) behavior) on Saturday was 100% characteristic of him.

No, Silva didn't throw the fight. He just thought he could bob and weave, humiliate Weidman, and eventually land a good shot. That's what he was thinking. Weidman stuck to his game plan and decked Silva.

Uh..no it wasn't. He has done this same thing on several occassions. The Maia fight was probably the worst.

Beyond that, think of how absurd this notion is. The UFC, has their cash cow take a fall, not by a submission that would leave him healthy, but by a left hook on the chin that might have broken his jaw. Not only that, in this conspiracy, they pushed a far less marketable personality to the top spot, figuring that somehow this would make them more money.

Apparently people are so in love with Anderson Silva that they are willing to give up critical thinking for him.

I honestly think two things happened... but regarding the comment saying, "Silva didn't have any good competition." Well, sir you can only fight who is available. Otherwise, you could say the same about Jordan (NBA). His Bulls beat some pretty weak competition, but they could only beat who they played. Also don't insult Silva by comparing him to Ortiz.

1) I think he just got bored. Probably will happen to anyone who goes undefeated for nearly 7 years.

2) Father Time is undefeated. Maybe Silva could've focused a little more, but ask any old champion; age cathches everyone.

The fun thing is that Silva fans like myself can always argue, "If he focused, he'd have won with ease."

Okay let's recap with silva's fight against griffin. Silva was doing the same old bobbing and swaying tactic, but see in the griffin fight he remained on the offensive, counter striking all of griffin's punches. Now wether that match in itself was thrown or not is debatable, but silva's tactics in the match stays the same. Now lets recap the sonnet fight were silva gets clocked like a hundred times and still doesn't get knocked out. How does a fighter that is known for having one of the greatest chins in mma today, get clocked by wild swing with very little impact, I find it absurd. Silva not only had his hands down but other than a few open fist strikes and misplaced kicks never made any effective counter strikes during the whole fight, this coming from one of mma's most versatile and complete striker COME ONN!! Even though his main intention wasn't to throw the fight, there is no doubt that he entered that octagon with the intention of wining. Don't believe me? The interview speak for itself.

Responding to par 4's comment, who compared him to Tito Ortiz.

Silva faced Belfort, among many other larger fighters who fight in a higher division, Tito lost to a same sized or even undersized Belfort while Anderson killed a bigger Belfort.

You actually included someone even you believe to be good while saying Silva hasn't fought anyone good, when he's fought and destroyed that very same guy, while being a weight class under that guy.

Stop watching the ufc, the sport does not want you, you should stick to things that don't require having a relevant opinion, like playing on the highway.

hell yes he threw the fight, watch the knockout punch, looks like a punch your mom would throw. Not a silva fan either, i could care less he lost, it's just funny people went so and are going gaga over weidman, he hasn't proved anything. Beat Silva again then your legit.

I don't think he planned on getting knocked out but I don't feel like he wanted to win either I think he to set on Roy jones jr fight and not being middleweight champ opens that door a lot more in my eyes and people are saying he's had no real competition but that's far from true he's only fought the top athletes in the world otherwise they wouldn't be in UFC think about it sonnen Maia Franklin the list goes on and on he just made them look like armatures people always want to find a reason for someone to not be the best but have no good reasons to back it up I also wouldn't call it showboating or disrespect its being tactical if your good at counter striking the piss your opponent off and get them swinging

Anderson Silva was just like Tito Ortiz in his "prime"...his competition was weak. Ortiz didn't fight anyone good and lost his first fights when he started fighting Chuck Liddell, Randy Coture, and Vitor Belfort. When Ortiz finally fought someone who knew what they were doing he lost.

The same with Silva, he hasn't really fought anyone good, and when he did he got beat.
