Closed my 3ds and now it's on black screen!?

I have been playing monster hunter 3 ultimate on my 3ds and I've done a bunch of stuff in the game. I closed my 3ds so save power because I needed to do something on the computer. Now that I want to play on it again the screen is black like it's turned off but the power is still on. I don't want to turn the system off because I'll lose my progress but how do I fix this?

    try plugging in the power. if this has no effect close open again if that doesn't wrk restart the system.

    try holding the power and home button at the same time i know cause i got a new 3ds cause my old one broke but when i did it it actually work
