Have to start Cold Calling for my job...but I'm nervous, any help?

I have to start cold calling for my job because the company I work for needs to get more leads/sales. They've provided me with a list of companies to call and want me to call them all by the end of the week. I don't have the owner or CEO's name and only the company name.

I'm a bit nervous for some reason. How do I get over this?

I have done Cold Calling in a variety of jobs from appointment setting, to telemarketing, to selling real estate, and other network marketing gigs. First, are you cold calling business to business (AKA B2B) or business to residences. If it is B2B, you may have to sweet talk the gatekeeper, who is usually a receptionist or secretary, but the owner or manager tend to not give you much grief. Unless you are calling people who requested information, if you are dealing with individuals at home, you may receive responses that range from slight resistance to yelling and screaming. You just have to grow a thick skin and not take it personally. Just keep smiling and dialing until you get a Yes!

Btw, if this job does not work out or you decide to moonlight, check out my gift basket business at:

    Hope this helps. Happy Dialing!

Cold calling is a hard job as you really are a telemarketer and often the people you call are not pleasant. Expect to get yelled at and hung up on but don't take it personally as you are a unknown, faceless voice. After a few calls I expect you'll get over your nervousness.

Seriously, you're just a voice on the phone to them. If it helps just think of yourself as someone else, they'd never know anyway.
