2006 vw jetta no oil in engine. is that common?
I bought a car from the auction yesterday and I notice that when I remove the engine stick there was a bit of oil. Then I cleaned it and put it back and no oil. Is that common on this cars?

What engine is your Jetta? If it's a 2.0t it's a very common problem to have to add oil about a quart every 2k miles or so especially since the recommended oil change intervals are at 10k miles.

Park your car on a level surface.
Fill about 2.5 litres of oil and use the dipstick to see the level after about 10 minutes.
Start the engine for two minutes, and switch off.
After another 5 minutes check the oil level.
if the level is OK, there was just low level of oil.
If all is well, then ask someone to press on the accelerator, and at about 2500 to 3000 rpm, and take your foot off. check the tail pipe. If there is too much white smoke coming out, this means there is an engine fault, probably worn out piston rings, and oil consumption is too high because it burns along with gas.
Sell the car off, but not before checking the repair cost.

Maybe that is why it went to auction. I hope you didn't pay much because it will cost a lot to fix it.
