babysitting for a 9 year old girl and 11 year old boy?

I am going to be babysitting regularly for a 9 year old girl and 11 year old boy during most of the day (morning until late afternoon). I've watched them before but the last time was a couple years ago, so of course some of what we used to do won't work anymore. They are very active so I would like to have some ideas in my head, just in case... novelty would work (at least the first time!)

If you have a car, or access to reliable public transportation- I'd suggest taking them out as much as possible to places that'll be fun and educational. The more active they are, the happier they'll be. Try to do mostly free things, but occaisionally maybe see if the parents can chip in for some of it- or use some of your own cash. Be sure to pack drinks and snacks.

    -the public library

    -the beach

    -a public pool

    -nature walks

-local sights depending on where you are

    -matinee movies

For days you stay home if it's rainy or too hot- try to keep them involved in stuff.

Bring some of your favorite books or movies that they may have never seen before.

Bring a new game they've never played before (video games or board games).

Do art projects (bring some new art supplies they've never used before).

Make a fun project. When I was a kid, someone's aunt helped us make "autograph books" out of colored paper stapled or tied together. My cousin and I had so much fun getting "autographs" from people we knew.

Bake a cake, cookies or easy treat they can help to make and eat- like banana bread or brownies.

They probably also have lots of fun things they love to do too- like playing certain sports or video games. Let them do that stuff sometimes too- but try to come up with new and interesting things as much as you can.

Most of all- Enjoy! If you're having a good time they probably are too.

Well a nine year old girl and an 11 year old boy won't be interested in the same things. One thing you could do is go swimming (if they have a pool). Or maybe when it's not too hot you could play soccer or basketball outside with them. Inside, you could watch TV, play a board game. Try to find something active you can do inside. And also let them do their own thing for a while. Have fun!

make sure to help them with their homework (if they're in summer school). aside from that, just talk to them and see what they like so you can do what they like with them. bring some dvd's you think they might like and feed them.
