Answer me this about Religion?

I use to be a Christian (protestant) until recently i lost my faith. the main reasons being when has god ever saved someone? why didn't God stop 9/11, or the holocaust, or why hasn't god stopped suffering in the world? Religion itself is responsible for more deaths than both World Wars and the Holocaust put together.

can you see god? no

can you hear god? no

can you touch god? no

can you smell god? no

has he stopped people from dying and stopped suffering in the world: no

Did he go around healing people with his magical hands and curing people of diseases: no

Science saves peoples lives and more and more now is proving religion wrong.

I suppose religion has a positive impact on society in the sense it attempts to do "good", but at what cost?

The crusaders, on BOTH sides, believed they were doing God's work, and saving the world from the tyranny of the enemy and their false religion - so who's right? what makes their god exist and not mine? but it Doesn't matter, millions still died in the process, for what? What good did the crusaders establish in blood and war?

Or the Reformation? A millennium of religious persecution, suppression of radical individuals to uphold the position of the Church? That's 500 generations of contribution to human progression down the drain, just because the Church can maintain itself as the absolute voice of "truth",

And what truth? That the Earth is flat? That Heaven is in the clouds? That the Earth is the centre of the universe, and plagues are God's wrath? Most of which can be cured by simple medicine today?

also why does the bible state we are the only life in the universe? when that is going to be proven wrong at some stage too.

It's an obsolete order that is no longer relevant to today's society. There is no reason to abolish religion as a means to inspire people, but the problem is religion continues to assert itself as "truth", and intolerant of new ideologies.

People should believe what they want to believe, but religion sometimes doesn't give that choice, does it?

Sometimes my mind just tells me it's illogical to believe in someone who could be 'god', someone who went around being able to cure people from being blind and rising from the dead etc, are we not just meant to live our lives without any superstitious beliefs, Sometimes I base my principles on reason, are we not just meant to live our lives with good values, respect, and good morals, without any superstitious beliefs, my mind just tells me everything about religion just seems, unreasonable!

A little story:

There was a Holocaust survivor, he was sent to Auschwitz from the Lodz ghetto at the age of 15, and later moved to Buchenwald. He came to the UK after the war to start a new life as he was the only survivor from his family. He knows his parents were gassed in Chelmno and he lost around 80 relatives and has no photographs, he says he can't even remember his mothers face.

When asked if he is still religious , he said 'no'

When asked if he believes in god, he said 'no'

When asked why he said 'god deserted me, how can I ?'

Stop talking bullshit about Adam and Eve they never existed...

When God created the first human, he produced more than just a body with a brain. Further, God did not create Adam and Eve to be mindless robots. He implanted in them the faculty of free will. All of us appreciate this gift of free will because we do not want all our thoughts and actions dictated to us without ever having a choice in anything.

In directions given to early Christians, God’s Word answers: “Be as free people, and yet holding your freedom, not as a blind for badness, but as slaves of God.” (1 Peter 2:16) For the common good, there must be boundaries. Hence, free will was to be regulated by the rule of law. Otherwise, anarchy would result.

However, our original ancestors Adam and Eve, misused their free will. They wrongly thought that they could be successful independent of God. Of their own free will, they stepped outside the boundaries of his laws. (Genesis, chapter 3) Because they rejected his rulership, he no longer was obligated to sustain them in perfection. ‘They acted ruinously on their own part, did not remain his children, and the defect was their own.’—Deuteronomy 32:5.

When they rebelled against God, they challenged his sovereignty, that is, his right to rule. Jehovah could have destroyed them and started over with another couple, but that would not have settled the issue of whose rulership is right and best for people. Granted time to develop their societies according to their own ideas, humans would demonstrate beyond any doubt whether rulership independent from God could ever be successful.

So Jehovah God had to step back and not be so involved in how mankind, under Satan's rule would lead. The Bible clearly tells us that, not God nor Jesus but Satan is the ruler of the earth.

    1John5:19, John12:31;14:30;16:11, 1Cor 4:4, Luke4:5,6 Acts26:18

God will soon intervene in human affairs. The Scriptures tell us: “In the days of those kings [human rulerships now existing] the God of heaven will set up a kingdom [in heaven] that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people [never again will humans rule the earth]. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms [present rulerships], and it itself will stand to times indefinite.”—Daniel 2:44.

The vindication of Jehovah God’s sovereignty by means of the heavenly Kingdom is the Bible’s theme. Jesus made this his foremost teaching. He said: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.”—Matthew 24:14.

He hates injustice. He hates to see suffering. And he will soon end it. And make all the tears of sorrow disappear. Rev21:4

All religion is not of God. God has only one truth and any who practice that truth will be his people. He has people all over the earth. The rest of religion will be done away with very soon. God will put the thought into the heart of the beast (UN) to ban religion (the harlot that rides the back of the beast) Shortly after that The battle of Armageddon will be fought in which all the wicked that do not serve God correctly and all governments and Satan and his demons will all be gone. Those left over in the earth will eventually be able to prove worthy of everlasting life without ever dying. This also includes the dead that God has kept in his memory. He will bring them back to life by resurrection. John 5:28, 29 That new system will be called God's Kingdom. New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven. Jesus will be King and he will have 144,000 corulers with him that are taken from the earth. They will send blessings to the earth and help make earth a paradise for all. Dan 2:44

[Dan 12:3 “And those having insight will shine as brightly as the expanse of heaven, and those bringing the many to righteousness like the stars, forever and ever.]

4 “As for you, Daniel, keep the words secret, and seal up the book until the time of the end. Many will rove about, and the true knowledge will become abundant.”

Okay so I read your question. (I hope you did not paste and cut a lot of this, but if you did that's your business. It's just that I've seen much of this before)

In nature we all know that without the Sun and its light in our lives today the existence of life on earth would not be here or it could have been radically different. Who knows? But just because we know the sun exists we do not need to have the star right next to us when we go about our daily lives. It would kill us it were. And we know that now that the sun is green. Who knew that before? And we know that light itself is more than just one color when we look at it through a prism.

But just because we cannot see the sun's light here on this earth and especially at night time, we as humans would never say that the sun does not exist. We would instead acknowledge that we cannot see it at night because the planet earth is blocking the sunlight. We also know that the sun's distance is good and makes maximum use of the sun's rays through various life forms on this earth.

So it is with my faith with God for a believer like me. I just know he is there at all times. I don't need the physical evidence.

I'm not a baby anymore that I need my parents to be with me to know what I believe in. I am my own person now. I don't need evidence that my parents or my wife or my children love me. I just know they do. And the love we share is not the same love. My wife loves me as a husband. My children love me as a father. My parents when they were alive loved me like a son. It is love expressed in different ways. It is love that is constant no matter what or when or how much. There is love there.

So it other people. Including people that suffered the Holocaust. There were some that stopped believing in God. There were others that did not.

So Joker you are entitled to believe what you believe is ultimate truth for you. I am not here to stop you from doing so. I'm just stating why faith exists and how it exists in me about God.

    Later.

The mystery's of faith an GOD are beyond human comprehension.

Faith concerns questions which cannot be settled by evidence.

How can the universe create itself out of nothingness?

    "Did it create itself

If not, how did NOTHING create EVERYTHING? Doesn't it make more sense to assume that the existence of a Creation. Everything must have a beginning?

Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil - it has no point.

A better question to ask would be, Why should God have intervened on 9/11? We’ve denied Him in our forums, kicked Him out of our schools, forbade the mention of His name in public, protected by law the behavior He most detests, and done our best to force His people to abandon the Land He gave them.

In short we’ve done nearly everything we can think of to tell Him to leave us alone. Having done all that, what makes us think we deserve any of His protection? There are some things that God can’t do.  He can’t break His own law, He can’t tolerate sin, and He can’t make us love Him. There’s also one thing He won’t do. He won’t butt in where He’s not wanted.  The Old Testament is full of examples where Israel abandoned God and suffered defeat at the hands of their enemies, but we haven’t learned from their mistakes.

Instead we've questioned His honesty, impugned His integrity, and ruined His reputation.  We told Him to go away and leave us alone, and that’s what He’s done.

Where was God?  He was on His throne shedding tears of grief that after being blessed like no others have ever been, His children in America have gone out of their way to reject and offend Him, leaving themselves defenseless in the process. In short, God is not in control, we are, and it’s long past time to reinstate Him.

Lamentations 3:22 says the Lord’s compassions never fail and according to Hebrews 13:8, Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever. That means He’s not arbitrary, intervening sometimes and not others without any apparent reason. Therefore, there have to be other factors involved that are currently not under His control, because He certainly didn’t create the world this way.

Think about it. Jesus didn’t say we’d never be sick, but He promised we could be healed (James 5:15). He said we would have troubles in this world, then told us to take heart because He’s overcome the world (John 16:33). He also said He is working all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). I take the phrase all things to mean everything, good or bad.

So what are these other factors? Well, first of all there’s our fallen creation which is currently under the control of the evil one (1 John 5:19). Because of this we live in an evil and arbitrary world, where even the innocent are often attacked. The bad things that happen to people in this life are because we live in a fallen world where there is no direct relationship between cause and effect. Bad things can happen to good people and good things can happen to bad people. According to 1 Peter 5:8 the devil is always prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Then there’s our sin nature that can place us outside of God’s protective power without us even being aware of it until it’s too late. And sometimes our faith is so weak that even in asking for help we make it obvious we don’t believe we’ll get it. James called this being double minded and said we shouldn’t expect anything when we pray like that (James 1:6-8). Put all this together and it’s a wonder God is able to intervene as often as He does.

I disagree. Philosophers have raised many perplexing questions--what's the international like? how will all of us comprehend it? how ought to we are living? how ought to we set up ourselves. Philosophy additionally factors solutions. It does so by making use of reason and good judgment to the area and searching for an answer. "Philosophy: Who desires It?" by Ayn Rand is an remarkable essay speaking approximately what philosophy is, why it fairly is needed, and why all of us needs to apply it. Religions make assertions, yet there is room for question to an volume. All recommendations have an inner middle and outer, peripheral recommendations. The peripherals can continually be questioned and the two altered or discarded without affecting the indoors middle. to illustrate, a individual can question how a ritual must be accomplished or how a congregation must be recommended, and can gain this without affecting the indoors middle of ideals very plenty. the indoors middle many times won't be in a position to be questioned promptly, however some aspects could be altered extremely if the peripheral recommendations substitute substantially adequate, and then in basic terms over a protracted direction of time. The heritage of "heresies" that arose in the church is one occasion of this, wherein doubtless-middle recommendations have been challenged on the inspiration questioned peripheral recommendations.

    As Salaamu Alaykum

If you have noticed every thing is created in pairs, male female, darkness light etc. as well as good and evil, so that we may understand and make the right choices and repent. If there were no opposites we couldn't make sense of anything because this is one of the mechanisms of our understanding.

The Qu'ran was revealed to the Last messenger of God and it is not obsolete. It has the solutions to mankind. It is the completion of the belief in the one and only GOD

It is clearly stated in the Qur'an. There is even a challenge in the Qur'an to produce a single verse that compares and then you can call it obsolete

Men like Mr. Ahmed Deedat, Dr. Zakir Naik, Abdur Raheem Green helped me understand.

Hope you find the way in this life.

    Peace

well if you don't believe in god, then what is the purpose of your life? why people die? do you think it can be prevented? many people including you believe if god exist, he must help, heal, protect, stop suffering and science will lead the way. but ask you this, is that god real job?

in Islam, we believe that we are all Allah (god) creation. there are many reason why Allah send us to this world, one of the reason that we are send to this world is to see either we are better than another Allah creation (which is the angles) or worse than other Allah creation (which is the devil). another reason is to worship Allah, the rest of reason is what in Islam we called Allah secret (only Allah knows what).

Islam teach you how you should live your life in this short life we have in the earth but it is up to you to decide, either to follow it or denounce it. unlike other religion like christian, there is not boundary between you and Allah, you don't need to ask god son(Jesus) through pope before priest to save you, all you need is to ask Allah alone.

how can science put religion (Islam) wrong? Allah can be felt around you, if you are willing to open up your sense. in science you can fell Allah as all this universe are Allah creation, if it is not then who create all of this??

what science we now know is no where near what Allah knowledge of science, we cannot even tell what is the smallest and the biggest object in this universe..atom have a neutron and neutron still not the smallest..so what did our human science actually achieve so far? can science raise people from so many year of being dead?

if you say Islam didn't give you any choices than it is wrong!. if you read Qur'an, it is mostly start with the word "those who believe" if you didn't believe than you can! and you still can read Qur'an.

it is not Islam that make the world a worse place but human did, with their lust, greed, anger, deception and sometimes using religion to achieve their own personal or organization goal, like Islamist terrorist and catholic church who says that they are representing and protecting god. but god doesn't need to be represent or moreover being protected by human!

people lost their faith because they think narrowly and didn't use common sense. they shut their senses when they don't get what they wanted from god (Allah). it is all about them..why do you think you are that important in this world? you don't know anything yet you say you are the wiser of all that you can loudly say you don't need God (Allah). the fact is in the end of the day, it is us who need Allah more than Allah need us.

anyway i write this just because in Islam, it said that the main job for a Muslim is to convey Allah message, nothing more and surely you can do less. Allah gives you (human) all the time you can have in this world only to decide and make up your mind. it is not my lost if you don't believe what i said but surely it is my gain in Allah eye for what i did today, to life my life as a Muslim.

in Islam we often says "may peace be upon you" i really hope you will get your peace.

I agree with you that Religion has caused many wars in our history. All claiming that "their" God told them, or they are "doing" God's work. Many people ask "Why is God allowing so much death in the world?". or "Why does god do this, or that?". The truth is, we don't know why God does what he does, and why he allows what he allows. God's ways are not our ways.

I think people use Religion as an excuse or reasoning to do what they want to do. What they do is THEIR way, NOT God's way.

To quote one of my favorite movies DOGMA: "Through the Looking Glass, that poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter," that's an indictment of organized religion. The walrus, with his girth and good nature, obviously represents either Buddha or, with his tusks, the Hindu elephant god Lord Ganesha – that takes care of your eastern religions. Now the carpenter, which is an obvious reference to Jesus Christ, who was raised a carpenter's son, he represents the western religions. Now in the poem, what do they do? What do they do? They dupe all these oysters into following them and then proceed to shuck and devour the helpless creatures en masse. Now I don't know what that says to you, but to me it says that following these faiths based on mythological figures ensures the destruction of one's inner being. Organized religion destroys who we are by inhibiting our actions, by inhibiting our decisions, out of fear of some intangible parent figure, who shakes a finger at us from thousands of years ago and says "Do it, do it and I'll ******* spank you!"

The quote may claim one to be an Atheist, but I think it comes down to one needs faith and not follow dogmatic laws. I try to live my life through the Gospel Of Grace. I TRY to live my life pleasing to God. Like I said, "I TRY". No, I'm not perfect...but the great thing about God is that no matter how many times you fail, He will always be there to pick you up. His love is never ending, and his mercy is infinite. That's MY God.

If you have a chance, and I'm NOT endorsing this, but read Joseph Prince book titled "Unmerited Favor". It really changed my life and now I feel I have a better understanding of what God's plan is.

Peace be with you and yours.

I do not put my faith in science for anything, simply because it offers nothing that is worth believing in.

A scientist can tell me that love is nothing more that a chemical reaction in the brain that is roughly an equivalent response to eating chocolate.

And that may be true for all I know, but it simply is not worth believing. I would much rather believe in love even if I never see it, even if I never feel it.

    Hope that helps.
