Boiling hot dogs question?

ok, well I tried to boil like 2 hot dogs on the stove. I put the water in and waited to boil, then put the hot dogs in and waited for 10 minutes. but, my question is, when I saw the water, it was kind of green. is the water supposed to be green after u boiled the hot dogs? I think I did something wrong. Can u tell me? Thanks.

The water should never turn green unless it hadn't been washed out first and even then the water shouldn't turn green

I imagine boiling them for ten minutes would make them burst and turn inside out

You should be sure of the safety of them and how old they are, but even then they shouldn't torn green.

That is a real puzzle for me and I would be very cautious about eating them.

Have a taste test and if they taste odd go ahead.

She said kind of green. I doubt she meant the water had turned a deep lime green or something.

You probably saw some fat floating on the top and that can look a little greenish. No biggie.

Ten minutes is a long time to boil a hot dog. If you want to keep them warm for a while, bring them to a boil then turn off the stove. The hot water will keep them warm for a good while.

No the water is not suppose to be green after boiling hot dogs check to make sure that the water u use is good clean water and not sewer water coming out of the pipe or that the pot was clean to start with and last but not least check the date on the package of hot dogs to make sure they are current.

  • I would have to say if the water is green you should probably not consume the hot dogs. It could be oxidization however from naturally cured hot dogs. Additionally it can be that green may actually be celery juice, a natural preservative used to cure hot dogs without chemicals. If you bought it from a deli or the packaging says nitrate free, this may be the answer.

The same thing happened to me a couple times. I can't remember what brand they were. I ate them anyway. It didn't kill me....I don't think.
