I need help with my new piercing!?

So 4 days ago I got my cartilage pierced professionally with a needle at a tattoo and piercing place. I love my helix piercing, don't get me wrong, but man it's a pain. I don't regret getting it, but in some way I kind of do. I can't do anything anymore! I can't sleep the position I feel comfortable in, showering is an issue (because my hair gets caught on it), some crusts are building around the new piercing, and it's really sore.

I heard a couple people saying to avoid going into the pool. Is this true? Summer 2013 finally comes and I can't go swimming? I've been going to this extremely nice pool ever since I was 10 and always always go swimming there nearly everyday of summer. Is it true that I can't swim? :( because I'd be really bummed and seriously regret my piercing. :(

Chlorine is bad for a new piercing. It dries it out & irritates it. Plus if its a public pool just think of all the pee/poop/sweat/etc. in there. If you were to go swimming you'd seriously increase your risk of infection, especially swimming everyday.

Your piercing is brand new. It's going to be sore for awhile. Give it time...clean the crusty stuff off. That's normal & you should be cleaning it off multiple times a day. You'll get used to sleeping with it. Find a comfortable position so that your ear isn't on the pillow. Eventually you'll be so used to it you won't even think about it anymore.

I felt the same way with my forward helix piercing! It's only been 4 days, give it some time! Mine hurt (done @ Claires) for about a week, but after that it was starting to heal. With my FH piercing, it hurt soooooo bad I actually cried up until 6 months, but I love the way it looks so I left it in. It bled, puffed up, etc. (done with a needle at a parlor). I'd say keep it for now and if it bothers you after the healing time, take it out. Or, you could get the earring changed a little before it;s healed professionally (cost me $17 and hurt soooo bad!).

About the swimming, I went right after a piercing and it was fine, as long as it isn't excessive chlorine like competitive swimming every single day with no swim cap. Otherwise, i think it's fine, a little water won't hurt! Actually, it relaxes my new piercings. Wait about a week and then go, just to be safe. Good luck!!
