Questions about Valet Parking?

My wife and I will be driving to Denver in September for an international meeting. (Denver is notorious for lack of parking.) The hotel we are staying at offers valet parking for $28 a day, with "in and out" privileges.

I have never used valet parking in my life. What the heck are "in and out privileges," are tips required on top of this "privilege" to park at a hotel we are already paying a bunch of money for, and are there other things I should know?

We're just a couple of rural folk that don't do cities well. Pointers would be helpful.

Update:

In fifty years I have never even seen a valet except on television (I guess I am just not sophisticated enough for this)

Update 2:

Well, both answers are good, and I am torn between which one to pick. I just can't say "this answer is good, and this answer is not-as-good," so I will put it up to the voters. (I started by voting for both.)

As someone else mentions here "In and Out privileges" mean you can use your car at will. I would tip and there are a lot of considerations here. I sometimes pre-tip to ensure rapid service and so when they see me coming they know they will be compensated if they do a good job. You may consider one tip at the end of the day though this might not work well if there are many folks on staff parking or retrieving your car at different times.

Ask the hotel Maitre de what the customs are in the hotel, or ask for suggestions. Don't worry too much about it and enjoy your stay in Denver!

in out privileges mean you can use your car during the day with no penalty. tips are always expected, I would do $5-$10 a day depending how much I used my car, but its up you.
