Someone ran into the back of me and I don't have insurance.?

So why is their insurance company coming after me to pay every penny of the damage to their car??? It was their fault anyway. Does anyone know Indiana laws on this?? Thanks

Update:

While I agree that it is against the law not to have insurance. I myself have insurance. My question refers to someone I know.

Their insurance company is doing this because they reckon that you can't afford an attorney to fight the matter. One of the benefits of having insurance is the army of attorneys that every insurance company has on staff. Without an attorney to defend you, the law really does not matter.

Some courts have even agreed with this position on the theory that if you not been operating a car illegally without insurance the matter never would have come up.

The law says you must have insurance. If you don't obey the law you can be held liable for any accidents.

why were you driving without insurance. I know you need that in every state. Is there something you are failing to write. If they hit you from the back, their insurance should pay. You should be fined for driving without insurance. Even tho I would rather not pay for insurance I do. It includes having to pay for uninsured driver's like you. UNFAIR

They may be coming after you because you have no insurance and they know that you have nobody to represent you to fight for you, protect you.

Sorry but those who drive without insurance, must accept the consequences
