whats up with minority scholarships?

what difference does it make what color their skin is, it has so little to do with intelligence or content of character. im finding it hard to get a scholarship, when my asian and black friends have no problem at all. why do they get preferential treatment?

You should probably ask the people with the money this question. Scholarships from private organizations or donors are based on the preference of the donors.

So, I guess what you really want to know is why people with money to donate are not donating more money for say, Appalachian or other low-income white demographics. Right or wrong? (Tell me.) Well, my guess is that such donors don't believe in targeting a demographic and don't want their recipients to believe they were preferred because of their European heritage.

Look... There are plenty of scholarships out there! Most are based on non-ethnic or non-racial things, such as GPA. No highly-intelligent or high-GPA white kid need go without scholarship money, to the point where they should need to complain that there are "too many minority" scholarships.

Just batton down and get the GPA needed, if you're a low-income white.

People who get scholarships do not get them because of race. They get it because they profess the ability to achieve, but lack the economic resources. People who have the resources don't need scholarships, so why give it to them. And if Billy Bob can't read, why give it to him

Private groups can offer scholarships on any basis they want.

It's about history and the inherent privilege of being white in America. As a white American you will never know what it feels like to be denied a loan or apartment or job because of your race. It's not the same for black Americans.
