No it would not!
Nobody knows what the future holds, the world is not only unstable, its precarious at best, we suspect Iran of wanting to produce Nuclear weapons, Pakistan (whose governance is on a knife edge) already has them!
So far MAD has prevented any nuclear war but some cultures do not value human life in the same way we do, the fact that nuclear submarines can be anywhere on the planet at any time, ready to strike back but no one locate them to take them out is the best deterrent of all!

Its unlikely, but nowadays you never know, be a silly move if they did scrap or greatly reduce it.
What Britain's AND France's Nuclear Deterrent really does is keep the other side (who ever that may be) guessing, instead of em just having to factor in what the US's response would be to aggression (nuclear and none nuclear), they also have to take into account what Britain and France's response would be, not easy when both these two countries posses nuclear weapons.
Take away these weapons and we would literally be forced to live in America's pocket at least with these weapons we have some independence and when spread over 20+ years they are cheap compared to other forms of defence.
No matter how you look at it, if you want a credible insurance (defence) policy that gives you peace of mind, its going cost you, as they don't come cheap.

Nuclear stockpiles have decreased since the cold war, so "any" is already the case. If you're saying go to zero, I can't imagine that happening, too many governments concerned about terrorism or each other to unilaterally give up a deterrent.

Sure. During the past 20 years, 90% of the US and Russian nuclear weapons have been dismantled. Since you are a conservative, you are ignorant of that.
