What type/brand of paint would u recommend for painting over wooden panels?

If they're bare wooden panels, and the project isn't too big, I'd use white gesso, first, as an undercoat.
Because I try to be budget minded (calling myself penny pinching makes me sound like a miser, Lol) cheap acrylic paint suits me. You'll probably need to apply several coats to get the finish you're looking for, though. That is the one drawback of cheap acrylic paints, they tend to be watered down.
