The 3DS is worth it if you want to play casual games. It's going to be cheaper during christmas, and there's word spreading of a special edition Animal Crossing 3DS Christmas Bundle coming. Probably will come with an SD Card and 500 nintendo points.

You can't play Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but you can play Animal Crossing: Wild World.
New Leaf is a 3DS game, so it can only be played on a 3DS or a 3DS XL. Wild World was released for DS, so it can be played on DS, DSi, 3DS and 3DS XL.
Like the others, I believe that the 3DS is great and you should consider getting it. I'd recommend the 3DS XL. Not only can you play 3DS games on it, but you can also play DS games.

No you can't, the game card wont even fit in your consel ecause it is shaped differently. I reccoment buying a 3ds though, you won't forget it:)
