To anyone else, the answer is no simply because the whole car may not even be worth that much.

However, to you, the answer depends on the circumstances. Aside from the transmission, are there any other issues? How long have you had the vehicle and has it been reliable? If it has been reliable, is this Saturn still meeting your transportation needs? If you were to replace it, how much money would you be spending on a new(er) vehicle?

If you think the car still has some life in it, the transmission repair may be worth it to you.

I doubt that you could purchase another vehicle on a reliable condition or status for this price. The worth of automobiles can be measured in many ways. The most common is the market value as an unit. The next one is the value of its parts and the next one is the value for recycling. The least well known is the personal value to you. I know of a gentleman that has a twenty one year old Ford Probe. Not a very exciting car but it runs for him and he uses it for transport. It has low market value but it transports him anywhere he wishes to go. The actual value of that car is the replacement value of the next car. If this Saturn is in good overall condition otherwise it is my conclusion that repairing or replacing this transmission is a good choice. If the car has close to 200,000 miles and the engine has issues then this is another matter. The overall condition of the car needs to be evaluated. Perhaps a mechanic that can inspect the car can render a recommendation. Best of luck.

Rather than pulling the transmission apart and working on it, I would rather suggest that you go to a parts dealer and see if they have a second-hand transmission for you.. pulling apart a transmission and putting it back would increase your chance of other problems surfacing.. a good 2nd hand one would be more worth the cost and less problematic.. plus its an easier fix and would cut costs on workmanship and man-hours if you were going to do it at a Mechanic Shop..

GET MORE OPINIONS and consult with AAMCO or other reliable and trusty trans shop! You MIGHT just have BAD FLUID or a bad SOLENOID and they have a COMPUTER that can Allyce it and indicate what is really wrong! $1300 for a SATURN TRANS is RIDICULOUS because of the YEAR and value! >>>The ORIGINAL SATURN engines Were AWESOME in may ways! then GM ruined them by using CAST IRON LINERS in an ALLOY BLOCK< not GM's forte! If the SATURN you have is in good physical shape, then use CAR-PART.COM for good used and tested TRANNIES! I would deal with what you already have! I personally could most likely repair it myself! GOOD LUCK!!
