How are steaks cooked outside of America?

So my brother said that it's just an American thing to cook a steak rare, and that most other countries cook them well done or medium. Is there any truth to this? I couldn't imagine so many people ruining a good cut like that.

No, in Italy they have a steak (it's incredible) called "bistecca" that is typically cook to rare. Also, in Japan Kobe beef is cook to rare or sometimes served raw. There are others, but that's the ones I know of.

We will probably cook the same ways as you do, different people like them differently.

Not all Americans like them rare actually most will prefer medium, then medium rare in that order.

You have to imagine that others thing eating them rare is ruining, it is a matter of opinions, get used to that fact

Your brother is wrong. Watch any number of shows on Food Network, and see how many foreign chefs demand that steaks be cooked medium rare.
