Christians/Jews: Why does god need people to wear bells so he knows they're coming?

Exodus 28:31-35

"And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.

And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about:

A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about.

And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the Lord, and when he cometh out, that he die not."

In this story, "god" gives explicit instructions for the bell-and-pomegranate robes he must wear when he goes in or out of the temple, so that god will know it's Aaron and not kill him.

Wouldn't an all-knowing, all-seeing "god" already know if it was Aaron or not, without needing bells to let him know?

Isn't this more than a little absurd?

Update:

The purpose of the bell-pomegranate costume was so that god would know it was Aaron coming in, and not somebody else. If anyone but Aaron went in, god would supposedly kill them -- god wouldn't kill Aaron when he came in only if he had the costume on, "...that he die not."

Don't you guys read your own book??

Update 2:

@seaday: "The High Priest would die if he came before God not properly attired, the bells were just ornaments." God killing you for wearing the wrong clothes isn't absurd?

the bell was so that if the priest died inside the Holy of holies then the people outside would know (when it stopped tinkling for a long time) and could pull out the body by an attached rope

no one but the high priest could enter there for any reason

It is amazing how you Atheists can not only be ignorant, but not even be able to think logically, and understand what the Bible is telling you, because your mind is closed by hatred.

    . 1st JOHN 2:9-11.

    9. He that saith he is in the Light, and hateth his Brother,

is in Darkness even until now.

    10. He that loveth his Brother abideth in the Light,

and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

11 But he that hateth his Brother is in Darkness,

    and walketh in Darkness,

and knoweth not whither he goeth,

because that Darkness hath blinded his eyes.

If the Priest made a mistake in the Holy of Holies, he could die.

The sound of the bells would cease, and the other Priests would

know what had happened, and know to step in- because a dead body

in the Temple is very bad... uh, mojo.

Sometimes the priests died. The bells let the humans know he was no longer moving in there.

It is recorded elsewhere that the priests had a rope tied to them so they could drag them out if they died.

Source(s): I read the whole Bible.

I heard that when a bell chimes, a very important person is on the way. Reason that when the bell chime, the congregants will kneel and worship the Lord. That's terrific!!
