How do i feel more confident around horses that i will ride them?

My Nan and Grandad have 3 horses. One is 26, one is 10 and one is 9. The 26 year old is so old he cant be ridden but is so friendly you can even walk underneath him. I used to ride him when i was little but then i went to a riding lesson (not on this horse). I only went to 2 lessons but on the second lesson it started raining and we got lost, it really made me not what to ride, but i feel so stupid that there are horses i can be riding and I'm not because i know how many people want horses and cant have them. I have just completely lost my confidence. I'm really up for it when I'm at home but then when i get to my Nan and Grandad's i just chicken out. The last time i was on a horse was about 2 years ago. I would be riding the 10 year old horse and he is quite jumpy and as he is so young I'm worried he may buck as i am on him. I only go to theirs every other weekend. How can i feel more confident not only around this horse but to have the confidence to get onto the horse?

Everybody gets nervous around a horse at some point. One way to get rid of it is to have someone lead you around on the horse until you get used to it or to ride it in a small pen where it can't take off with you on it. I have a horse that I have had for about 6 years and I broke her myself when I was about 8 and 1/2 or 9 and she is really jumpy. I usually run her in circles for a little bit before I get on her and that usually gets her to calm down.

Try warming up around the stallion, and attempt to make any kind of bond. Perhaps feeding or just petting him will allow him to be more used to you and know how YOU behave. I've been riding for about a year now, and I can tell you, some pretty crazy stuff can happen. But if you do get bucked off or have any negative contact with the horse, just brush yourself off and try again. Any mistake can easily be used as a lesson for you to improve how you ride and perhaps gain some more confidence around horses. Also, if the stallion does get a bit rowdy, just know that your Nan, Grandad, or whoever will be watching you, will probably handle it since they have more experience with those types of things. Good luck!

Understand, every rider gets thrown. I don't care who you are, what you do, it will happen. That being said, get on, take a deep breath, and just let your fear fade away. talk to the horse, and realize, every fall is a point earned. If you need time, just go out and talk to them, groom them, play with them. If the horse isn't ridden regularly, he/ she may be good the first ride, then make you earn it the next few times. If you hit the ground, Cowgirl Up, dust yourself off, and get back on. If you don't he/ she wins and you will have more work to do. Trust me on that. I rehabilitate and train problem dogs and horses. Don't be afraid. Trust is the key to a long standing partnership with your horse.

Its not a bad thing to be nervious around horses. Just about every horse owner/rider has some bit of fear. I do at times but I decide not to let it get the best of me. I make sure I do everything safely.

About taking lessons don't worry your instructor will make everything a positive experience for you. The horses are very safe, school horses are broke to anything and everything. They wouldn't hurt you at all. They'll do everything in their power not to hurt you. Once you start working around horses that fear will go away gentily and you'll enjoy it while creating a bond with a horse.

first of all don't walk under a horse you will get kicked. you could get some more lessons and a 10 year old is not to young but you should not ride him if he is jumpy you will lose confidence.
