I have to respectfully disagree with Gray Bold. Yes, it's either a culturally-specific form of self-identification or a label arbitrarily ascribed to an individual. "Race" exists as a social reality, but not as a valid, coherent biological reality (I am not trying to be politically correct). A large majority of contemporary anthropologists and geneticists are in agreement with this view. Instead of genetically distinct "races," geographic ancestry or clines more aptly describes human variability.

No. The difference in races reflects the adaptations isolated populations made to their specific environments.
