Diabetics: An A1c of 10?

For those who are diabetic, how bad is an A1C score of 10 in a middle-aged man? He just found out, and he's taking steps to reduce it and will see the doctor to discuss it. I know the score should be around five or so, so I'm wondering how bad this is.

Thanks for answering.

An A1C of 10 means that you are in danger of developing diabetic medical complications. Within a period of ten years, you should expect medical complications to develop unless the person decides to change his ways.

I am what is called a brittle diabetic. About a year ago, my level was at 13, it is now down to 10. It is pretty scary! My doctor says that I should be closer to 6 or 7. I had a little sister pass away three years ago tomorrow, from diabetic related illness. She was only 22, but was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 3. I hope that I make it longer than twenty years. I was just diagnosed about 4 and a half years ago.

For a newly diagnosed person, it's part for the course (normal).

If a person keeps that A1c over a period of years though, diabetes complications are guaranteed. And even short term, it impairs immune system function. This does not represent good blood sugar control. Even in people who are too sick for aggressive blood sugar control to be safe, the A1c should be below 9%.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/axLWC

    Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

    Increased thirst

    Increased urination

Weight loss in spite of increased appetite

    Fatigue

    Nausea

    Vomiting

Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

    Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

    Increased thirst

    Increased urination

    Increased appetite

    Fatigue

    Blurred vision

    Slow-healing infections

    Impotence in men

If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

An HbA1c (A1c) of 10%, my friend, shows that the average blood sugar level for that person was around 279 mg/dL (milligrams per deciLiter). There will, of course, be times when it was lower, just as there would have been times when it was higher.

It indicates that control is pretty bad.

I'm reasonably sure that you understand the HbA1c test offers an 'average' of what the blood sugar levels have been like over the previous 3 months or so.
