I'm going to tick a lot of people off even just saying this, but,
...I don't consider the "New Atheists" to be atheists at all. They are really no different from fundamentalist Protestantism found in America. The two are identical. The "New Atheists" have brought nothing new to the table other than the evangelization methods they've borrowed from Evangelical fundamentalists. They still adhere to a loosely Christian-in-origin worldview with a Christian morality and metaphysical outlook. Only difference is they've tried to isolate God from it while preserving the system built on God.
True atheists to me are their predecessors like Nietzsche and Sartre; they were the only atheistic philosophers who truly took godlessness to its ultimate conclusions (which is nihilism) and tried to work out a metaphysical atheist worldview to make up for their abandoned Christian ones. The New Atheists however haven't done this at all and are trying to desperately cling onto a Christian worldview without God. They are intellectually lazy, overrated, commercialized trash.

I am very familiar with the new atheists. Dawkins, Hitchens, Dennet, Harris, Barker, Shermer, Silverman, etc...
They certainly do mean well, but they are very dogmatic themselves. They have a condescending attitude towards religion and typically think themselves to be morally and intellectually superior to religious people. Now that's fine, but they just have to shove it down your throat that you are an idiot because you believe in God, and most atheists (not all) nowadays do the same. Just look at the comments and answers on here, you will see that.

England's Archbishop of Canterbury said last week that Christianity is now known for it's hatreds and not about god!
Anti atheism is doing so much damage to Christianity that it is in reality anti Christianity – David Manley
It takes in reality only one to make a quarrel. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge.
Why so blind to what causes the backlash against Christianity?
ALL the other religions and atheists live in peace and are ONLY attacked by BAD Christians which causes all GOOD Christians to despair at the damage they do! Do you understand that yet? ONLY CHRITIANIY IN THEWHOLE WORL?!
The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only thing that can stop it is to abandon the terrible human emotions, seek to rediscover the idea of a loving god and act like it!
Posts like yours that drive people further away from God are driving you towards hell.
So who are you working for the devil or the antichrist because it sure ain't the loving god!

Everything in both the question and in the answer chosen, both of which are generalisations, can equally therefore be said of the religious. To single out any group for such characteristics, for example: motor mechanics, or the under 20 age group, is therefore arbitrary.
And as with everything else produced by the fanatical religious far right, is therefore pointless.

Narcissistic, mean and dogmatic?
Wow. They ARE turning atheism into a religion.

That phrase never appeared anywhere in that research.
Although, I did see this:
In other words, our research showed over 85% of the non-believers sampled to be more or less your “average Joe” when it came to being “angry, argumentative and dogmatic”, they fall right in line with current societal norms, nothing strange here - sorry non-believers, you’re pretty normal when it comes to being psychologically well-adjusted.
