Help?? (About swords)????????

Is a carbon steel (1060) katana considered reliable back in the fighting ages? And if not, what is the type of steel for a "true" katana? And can someone give any characteristics about the type of material each of the parts were made of?

don't even get me started on a true katana. a true katana takes many months to make and is made from an incredibly pure steel called tamahagene. costs thousands. 1060 is a pretty good steel. for a modern katana. the old katana furniture was made from silver, gold, and brass. modern katana has all the same stuff but iv seen titanium furniture before. the harder the steel the sharper it will be. if it is made correctly it is very sharp but can take shock damage without breaking. there are many modern steels to choose from and 1060 is one of the better ones. if a katana is made from anything but carbon steel its crap. a wall hanger.

hd got me to on my question
