Do you prefer to view a web page to the left or in the centre of the screen?
Take a 'standard' format: header/navigation at the top; links on the left; articles centre; ads right. What do you prefer? Why do you prefer it... what benefits do you see? If you are a web designer, what are your reasons for your justification?

Left. Certainly if the site is commercial.
Nielsen Norman Group advise:
"Web users spend 69% of their time viewing the left half of the page and 30% viewing the right half. A conventional layout is thus more likely to make sites profitable."
Have a look at this article:

Also, this article is a bit of a killer:

Update: It's okay to centre the screen but keep the prime navigation content on the top and on the left. If you look at the eye tracking model (F-shape) above then you'll see what I mean. This is proven stuff - scientifically.
We have seen some attempts to change this. Unilever placed their navigation on the right for many years but in the end, they reverted back.
BTW - possibly the best resource out there is from the US government. Have a read of this site:
www.usability.gov.
The question that you've raised here is covered on this site, along with formal research supporting my comments above. It's not about preference - there's too much to lose in getting key things like this wrong on commercial sites (££££ or audience or possibly both).

I disagree with Adrian.
Nothing irritates me more than a website 800px wide, on the left side on my 1660px window!
I like the part that interests me in the center of MY SCREEN... whatever is the screen OR the document width!
Look at this Y!A site. It may be just about 1000px wide, but it centers any wider screen.

More probably center view is preferred because it gives a more professional and user friendly look..

what everyone likes is that the title/heading should center aligned and rest of the data should be left aligned . Make use of colors to make it look more attractive !!!!!!!!!!!!!
