Trying to set a password on my computer?

I've been trying to set up a password for my windows computer: i went to control panel and user stuff and ive tried variations of passwords but it still says it can't take each password? any suggestions?

    we arent quite sure what you think you want to do.

    usually windows shows a progress bar, then displays a list of

    users at the login screen and asks for a username and password to login.

    in some cases where just one user account is created the system can be set to just automatically start as that particular user and go straight to the desktop.

    so if your question is really this.....

    my pc goes straight to the desktop when i start it, so how do i

    make it go to the login screen instead so i have to enter my password

    then thats a different system setting from the ones you are trying.

    if you actually want a password to the whole pc starting then thats nothing

    to do with windows.

    a BIOS pc startup password can be set in the pc bios

    but WRITE IT DOWN somewhere and preferably put a sticker on the pc

    that tells YOU where you wrote it down so when you forget ever doing it

    you will know where to find it
