What Federal laws protect us from legal malpractice?

My attorney was completely unprepared for my hearing and failed to present proper evidence that supported my claims. This Lawyer lost my case because he didn't do the work. Can anyone state the actual laws that protect us from dead beat attorneys

Ineffective assistance of counsel (IAC) requires two findings

    1) The attorney's work fell below reasonable accepted standards

    2) But for the failure to adhere to these standards there's a significant change the outcome would have been different

In other words, even if the attorney was lazy and untalented, if you would have lost anyway it doesn't matter.

You can sue the lawyer for malpractice. I know it seems odd, but that's how it works. If it was gross neglect, then you would file a complaint with the bar association where it can be reviewed for disciplinary action.
