EBAY SHIPPING!!! Question on how to ship items on ebay? NEW SELLER?
Hi, I'm planning on selling things on ebay to make a couple of bucks cause I'm a teen and i don't want to constantly ask my parents for money. Well anyways, I've gotten so confused searching up all the different shipping methods on the USPS and EBAY website, so now i've come to YAHOO ANSWERS!!
My question:
I'm planning on selling small items such as cheap earrings/bracelets/necklaces ($2-5), make-up such as nail polish/eye shadow/eye liner/ lip stick/ etc. ($2-6), REVLON hair dye that comes in the box packages ($5-6), 100% real human hair fake eyelashes ($3-5) and other miniscule items, but I cannot seem to figure out how to ship these items. I haven't listed my items yet afraid i won't know how to ship out the items if they are purchased. I've read on the USPS website about all these different shipping methods such as Priority Mail, First Class Mail, Express Mail, Flat Rate, First Class, Standard, etc. and it is so overwhelming and CONFUSING!!
1.What is the best way to ship my items for the lowest price possible?
2. Do I need to pay for tracking information? If so how? How much?
3. Can I ship my small items such as the jewelry in a standard letter envelope with a regular postage stamp on it?
4. Sometimes when i order small items off of ebay such as a phone battery, I get it delivered to me in a rectangular plastic gray bag from USPS. What type of shipping is this called? How much does it cost?
5. Please give me the best way to ship out items via USPS and please tell me the approximate price!
Please give me all the details you can because I've been on the EBAY and USPS website for hours trying to figure out how to ship items, and I'm just getting more and more confused. Please break everything down for me with details.
YOUR ANSWER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! I TRULY MEAN IT!!

Shipping, more or less, goes by both weight and distance. Given the information you put up there it appears you plan on offering free shipping. If you pay for the shipping yourself and charge the prices you quoted plan on losing money, not making it. Once you factor in eBay and PayPal fees there will be nothing left.
If you are planning on charging your customers shipping then you really need to know the weight of your item once it's boxed up like it's ready to ship. You can then enter that weight and the method you wish to ship by in the proper section on the listing form. It will then show each person who looks at your item how much shipping will be to their area. You can not use your bathroom scale as it can be off by pounds. A single ounce can make a difference in cost. When mailing by Priority Mail for instance a package weighing one pound and one ounce must go at the two pound rate. First Class must weigh under 13 ounces but each ounce makes a difference too.
If you do not wish to invest in a scale then after you have taken all your photos for your listing box them all up, (along with any padding you plan on using inside the box/bag), and take them to the post office to be weighed. Don't go early in the morning or at lunch time or just an hour before they close. They are often very busy in those times and you might wait in line for an hour. Then you can go back home and list your items. This can be time consuming but it will keep you from over charging or under charging shipping. When you overcharge some buyers will ding your selling stars or even leave negative feedback. When you undercharge the money comes out of your pocket.
Standard letter envelopes are not designed for items like you are selling. Most of them go though an automated sorter that can end up tearing your envelope and losing your items. To use a regular stamp it would also have to weigh one ounce or less.
I suggest you do a bit of dumpster diving, (with the stores permission), to look for boxes you can use for free. Sometimes you can find free bubble wrap that way too. Anything to cut down on your costs will help. The post office offers free Priority Mail boxes but you must use them only for Priority Mail. First Class or Priority Mail is the way to go for most items. Parcel Post is slower than watching grass grow and is often only a few cents cheaper anyway. Your customers will be happier that they got their package in four days instead of four weeks.
The plastic grey bags you are talking about are probably Polly Mailers. They also come in white and in different sizes. You can find them for sale on eBay and possibly some stores near you.
Stay away from UPS for small items like these. It will be much more expensive.
Delivery Confirmation is important if you can't afford to give the buyer back their money when the claim they never got it. You must be able to prove they did or they get their money back if they open a dispute. There is often a discount if you print your label online for Delivery Confirmation.
I could advise a few other things but I'm rapidly running out of room and it's time for bed. Just be aware that as a new seller you are subject to the 21 day hold at PayPal. That means it could possibly take as long as three weeks for you to get your money after you've sold your item if you don't use tracking and the buyer doesn't leave feedback.
Best of luck to you.

Could be anything. He either could just be lazy to go to the post office so that's why it's taking forever or maybe its a scam. A lot of scams on eBay, you should try asking for a pic of evidence that it's been already packed or if he really doesn't give you the item. Report him. And did you read his review if he has good Service? Think about all the possibilities
