1988 Ford f150 dies after running for just a few minutes?
I bought this truck as a project. It ran when I bought it, then gradually would run for awhile then die, and wouldn't start again until it cools off. Now it will run only a few minutes, will not start until it cools off again. The other thing is, if you don't undo a battery cable, it will run the battery down in just a few days. New battery. If you take a cable off, it will start even after a few weeks of non use. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
New Alternator. Thanks.

I had the problem of my car dying when it was hot and wouldn't start until it cooled off. I found that there was a bad ignition pickup in the distributor. The other problem could be an electrical short.

Sounds like two separate issues. The first issue is the stalling or it (dies) as you said. If the mil is on, get the code.
The 2nd issue is the battery drain. The alternator may need replaced or you could have a short somewhere which is slowly draining the juice out of the battery. The alternator can easily be tested with a volt meter.
