why cant i down load a photo from a file onto my adobe4.0 photo shop?

INSTEAD OF THE PHOTO COMMING UP i get a notice : "scratch disk" is full try clearing space...

QUESTION: what is my scratch disk and how do i clean it up ?? thank you

PS. every so often this problem comes up but then just goes away..only to return in a few days??

please help with specific info

AGAIN, PLEASE BE SPECIFIC... what the heck is disk clean up..and what is a scratch disk?..where is it ??

    I think u use disk clean up
