Is it possible to predict droplet size from a sprayer?

I saw a sprayer on a website that uses the venturi effect. Air is injected in at the base of the sprayer with a water inlet hole about a half an inch up. Another inch up it constricts and then there is the exit. I am wondering what it would take to create a finer mist in such a setup. I assume air pressure has something to do with it but I am sure there is more. I guess I am asking is if anyone can point me to some books / papers / websites to read that may help me find what I am looking for. Honestly I am not sure what to search for.

Incorporating over 35 years of experience in spray applications, the Malvern Spraytec provides the data required to fully understand spray and atomization processes. It will:

Simply reveal the dynamic changes in spray particle size through its unique size history analysis software.

How it worksThe Malvern Spraytec uses the technique of laser diffraction for measurement of the size of spray droplets and spray particles. It does this by measuring the intensity of light scattered as a laser beam passes through a spray. This data is then analyzed to calculate the size of the droplets that created the scattering pattern.
