Help! Patient Confidentiality was broken what now?

I am in Massachusetts and had one student/intern that was in my couples therapy session who talk to my personal therapist about me, without my consent. Yes she knew about what he told her but that still isn't right. I feel violated and not sure who I can actually trust. What do I do now?

If you were in a therapy session at a teaching hospital, the medical students may very well be covered under the HIPAA privacy law. You should speak directly to your therapist about that in private.

If you are worried about your privacy, you should consider the fact that you are posting your picture and other personal information such as your location and the fact that you have been in therapy on a website that can be accessed by just about anyone in the world. Deleting this question and changing your profile would go a long way towards guarding your personal privacy.

If the doctor provided any information about you to this person, then it could be considered a breach of confidentiality. However, if you have given prior consent to the doctor to discuss issues with the intern, in a professional manner, there is no breach. Maybe some more info on the situation would help clarify? No details about what was discussed, just who the intern is in relation to the situation, and if permission had ever been exchanged previously?

Honestly u can file a law suit bc that's a violation of patient confidencality no dr or physicists can share info about another patient's problems

    ??

depends... if the couples group is part of the same office/ system as your personal therapist, then that is not automatically breaking confidentiality. It might be all part of the same treatment.

What you do.. is check into if they are considered part of a team treatment.

what now is YOU, and what you want to do about it , I can't advise you about how you "FEEL" I'm not you , YOU are the one that has to decide a lot of things , I can tell you options all under the sun from, getting a new therapist , to eiling suite , but I cannot advise you on how you "feel" , its YOUR Choice , and posting it here , well I hope it gives you a lot of options, but I think most that will answer this question cannot, because they are not you and do not know how you "feel"
