There two protection switches for the compressor to prevent damaging the unit. One is the low charge or the cycling pressure switch fixed on the low side pipe and the other is the high pressure switch near the condenser. These switches can interrupt the ac clutch from engaging to protect the compressor. The low pressure switch opens when the pressure drops below to 22 psi aprox. this to prevent icing in the evaporator and low freon charge. While the high pressure switch cut off when there is an abnormal high pressure due to condenser clogging, dirty or over charging.Bypassing these switches is not advisable or the relay. Check the pressure both high and low side and also for leaks.
