Chevy Silverado 1500 Towing Capacity?
I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 Short Bed 4x4 w/ the 5.3L V8. This is NOT the Z71 package. What is the recommended and or maximum trailer weight for this vehicle? We are looking to get a travel trailer and want to ensure my truck will do the job. Thanks!
No opinions. I don't care what you tow or how much firewood you can haul, that doesn't help me at all and it does not answer my question. Just specification please.

I'm sorry I don't have the time (very slow internet) to look up the exact page for you, but this may help: http://archives.media.gm.com/us/gm/en/product_serv... Select your truck from all the options, and "specifications" will be one thing you can look at. Not sure where, if anywhere, on there they hide the towing specs, but at least that is straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.
If you find that info valuable, download and save it, 2003 is the last year listed on the site now, I can remember when they had '90's stuff listed... :(
Remember that towing capacity is just as much about the brake capacity and payload as it is the weight of the trailer.
I completely agree with you, hearsay is pointless. You could pull the space shuttle like Toyota did, but I guarantee you that thing was WAY outside of their towing specs, and being outside of the factory specs can put you in a dangerous spot.

I wouldn't get anything over 18' to 20' long. What you need to watch for is tongue weight and make sure to use anti-sway bars on it. Also turn on tow haul, but it will drink fuel.

You should be fine. My 5.0 will pull an 18ft trailer with a 1972 chevy on it with firewood in the bed. (long story). We also pull a pontoon with it.
