Non-virgin Ladies/Lasses: About your first time...?
I've heard a lot of men, especially teenage lads, spew a lot of nonsense about the female body that is completely outside of medical fact, but I've seen a few women on here that are, frankly, misinformed about the function of their own bodies. I'd like to get an idea of how well most women know their own bodies before becoming sexually active, because my girlfriends have generally known their stuff, but they were some pretty booksmart gals.
So, women, when you got down to having your first sexual experience, did you still believe that the hymen had something to do with virginity, and that it being "broken" was what caused bleeding during intercourse? If so, when did you learn the truth?

I was always told that the hymen had nothing to do with virginity. It was believed that it was back in the day when you weren't allowed sex before marriage, if you didn't bleed while having sex for the first time, you were shunned as a 'whore' basically for not being a virgin. If you are quite flexible, do a lot of sports like horse riding or gymnastics. It will usually break all on its own, which is what happened to me.
Edit; If for some reason it doesn't break before having sex for the first time, and it does while you are having sex that does cause bleeding and thats usually what makes the experience painful.

I virtually knew nothing about my sexual parts before I had sex for the first time. I didn't even know what a hymen was (or a clitoris) - all I know is that it bloody hurt the first time I had sex.
And I didn't bleed either.
Maybe mine broke when I first put in a tampon..?
I didn't learn the "truth" til I started reading cosmopolitan at age 16 - purely because I had become sexually active and wanted to impress my boyfriend with stuff.
