Which is best for a chimenea: coal or wood?

I've recently bought a chimenea and last week we burned our old, broken-up fence for fuel. However, my friend suggested I use coal or charcoal because it gives out more heat for longer. Which is best: coal or wood? Are there any specific advantages to either?

I would say wood also, nothing better than a wood fire IMO.

@ Kenzie, the original Mexican spelling was as the asker spelt it,however,as they tend to do,Americans changed it to 'chiminia'.So either method is accepted. We Aussies spell it as the Mexicans do.

Coal is more efficient for burning than wood. However, due to both the excessive pollution that coal causes and the fact that it is not renewable, the environment would probably prefer wood. To truly save the environment, don't burn either in your chimney (which is spelled with a 'y').

Wood, and add in your recycling, like pieces of cardboard.

Also, 'Herp', although Kathy mis-spelt it, it is "Chiminea", not "Chimney", both a two separate things, google it.
