Given that the character House was based upon Sherlock Holmes, yes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle based Holmes on a doctor he knew in medical school. The creators of House wanted to take Holmes back to his roots. Notice the similarities, including Wilson/Watson and the drug addictions.
