How much does it cost to repair a screen on the Samsung Galaxy S4? Where would I go to get this repair done?
My father gave me the Samsung Galaxy S4 last month. I love it! Bad news is I dropped it this morning and the screen cracked. Everything works fine. I can still touch and text and talk it just looks horrible and sometimes is hard to read. It isn't rigid or anything its still smooth when i touch it so I am guessing that it is something underneath that cracked? So my questions are 2. 1) where would I even go to get this fixed? I have no idea!!! Since I didn't buy it and my dad bought it in another state and it has no insurance I am not sure where to even start. 2) How much am I looking at needing for the cost?
Thanks in advance!

Samsung phones are fairly expensive to repair. You can buy a screen off eBay or amazon for a lot cheaper than a repair shop would charge you and if you have someone who is good at DIY you could ask them to do it for you. There's plenty of videos on YouTube explaining how to do it. I would also suggest investing in a good sturdy case :)

With the S4 you have a few choices when it comes to fixing a broken glass lens. Assuming that you are not experienced with this kind of work these are the two preferred options based on cost, time investment, and chance of success.
Pry the lens off and stick a new one on with adhesive or glue. Cost is about $45-75 dependent on skill. High probability of breaking AMOLED for the inexperienced.
Purchase a pre-assembled display and mid-frame assembly for about $165 (as of 08/07/2014).
Pay for a professional and glass only repair for around $100.
Replacing just the glass gives you the benefit of spending very little money, about $10 for the part and requiring a few tools that the average person does not have on hand. If you don't care much about how good the screen looks afterward you can get by with using a heat gun and plastic adhesive strips although the chance of breaking your AMOLED is high under those circumstances especially if it is your first attempt at this kind of repair. Figure another $35 minimum or more as you will need a heat gun and some adhesive as well as a deck of cards. Adding LOCA glue to this repair will make your phone look a lot better but add about $12 for a tube of high quality glue. Omitting LOCA glue eventually leads to dust particles accumulating under the glass which is very distracting on such a nice display. Plan on a couple of hours for this project.
Buying the complete part will cost you about to $120 more but requires very little in the way of tools and can be installed in about 45 minutes if you have intermediate mechanical skills. Your phone will look and work like new from the bezel forward. No glare from gaps between the lens and digitizer. No glue flowing into the speaker or home button to worry about.
If you choose to pay for a glass only repair be sure that the person doing the job is reputable. We've seen some pretty bad attempts in the past. You don't want bubbles or dust inside of your screen.

Unlike the response below, most DIY folks that are not experienced will cause more damage than the Samsung Galaxy S4 is typically worth. I agree with him that you can find a replacement screen on eBay. Here's what you will end up finding that your friendly DIY'er can do as it's the most basic method: http://goo.gl/uLdJLV . The price on that replacement screen (glass / LCD part) for the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen replacement is 220. I have seen as low as 180 for this repair part. However, a very skilled technician at http://www.xpressfix.com/ can do that same repair using only the Samsung Galaxy S4 Digitizer Glass without the LCD included for 169.99. It requires a special reflow machine and heat monitoring tool so that the LCD is not damaged or overheated during the repair process. If you overheat your LCD than you will be out 220 because you will have to replace the LCD and the glass with the part I sent a link to on ebay. You are MUCH better off using a repair shop. XpressFix takes mail ins or walkins on Samsung repairs in Orlando, FL.

I'm going to add this for posterity: a month ago I dropped my S4 for the first time in my workplace parking lot, and it sustained a single crack, about 3" long, that ran diagonally on the top left of the screen. It wasn't even visible except when I tilted it at an extreme angle, but I called Samsung anyway to get a quote for having it repaired by them (since I think getting it repaired with OEM parts and actual Gorilla Glass would be my better bet). They wanted about $233, and I decided to hold off for the time being.
Fast forward to today, I fumbled the phone moving from one hand to the other, and it landed face down on the kitchen floor, shattering the screen outward from the first crack from a month ago (it still worked and displayed in spite of it). I called Samsung back to get the process underway, except now I was quoted a cost of about $162 (which, as has been mentioned, includes the UPS 2nd day air shipping to the service center in Texas and back to me). I certainly wasn't upset at the $70-lower price, but I still asked why the difference in the stated cost. As I understood it, it depends on the amount of stock of the various parts on hand and the demand for that given part at the time.
Short version: if you go through Samsung, the repair cost may vary.
I may follow upon receipt of my repaired phone if any of my information above doesn't bear out.

Well, I would very very very recommend you to get the Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4 has many new and cool features like air gestures, air view (can done without s pen), smart scroll, smart pause etc. And again, try to look again about Xperia Z, did you see any special features there? Is there any voice recognition app in the Xperia Z? Yes, I know somebody love Xperia Z just because it has waterproof and beautiful design, but those is not the most important thing you need in a phone. Why waterproof not very important? Because nobody will purposely use their phone in water. Yes, Xperia Z is good in design, but not really worth, because Sony smartphone is always little expensive than Samsung, but Xperia Z doesn't have any special feature like Galaxy S4. So between S4 and Xperia Z, definitely just go the way for Galaxy S4. For iPhone 5, I think that it's not really worth. It doesnt have an expandable memory and its security is too strong makes you can't install third-party software or something like that. This makes you need to jailbreak your iPhone to unlock those security. Again it only have about 1500mAh, its not enough for most of people. iPhone's price also won't drop so fast, iPhone 5's still quite expensive in my country, About the HTC One, it has Ultrapixel camera which can capture 300% more light than other smartphone. But its feature not more like the Galaxy S4, and it doesn't have expandable memory like SD card, so means that if your phone internal memory is full, you can't put anything more in your phone, unless you delete something. For conclusion, Galaxy S4 has the best price for smartphone in the currently market, but the deciding is depend on yourself, I'm here to just tell you Galaxy S4 is the best choice.

FYI: I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 I bought about a month ago. I dropped it shortly after I bought it and the screen cracked. I have no insurance so I did some research on what to do. After watching some videos on YouTube and contacting Samsung directly, I've come to find out Samsung does not sell the Corning Gorilla Glass to the public, nowhere. If someone is trying to sell you a real Corning Gorilla Glass, then they are trying to sell you a regular piece of glass. Which is okay, if you want a new screen. Also, when you drop your Samsung Galaxy S4 and crack the screen, it automatically voids the manufacturers warranty. The best thing to do if you want the warranty and a real piece of Corning Gorilla Glass is to send it to Samsung and they will replace the LCD, digitizer, and Corning Gorilla Glass, even though it just may be a cracked glass. They replace the whole thing for $200.00 and it includes warranty and a real piece of Corning Gorilla Glass.

if you got the tools and everything it might be around 40 US dollars.
I have made a video about how to do the replacement step by step.
in order to do a professional work, you should have
1- gorilla glass replacement
2- heat gun
3- infrared thermometer
5- cards
6- uv glue + uv light
7- and few screen drivers etc, the rest I explain those things in these videos.
I hope it helps you so you wont mess up the screen of your cellphone.
here I post the videos (both are 30 minutes each and they have very well detail):
