I'm not Islamic, but speaking in a practical and historical sense, the "shaylah" or "tarhah", the proper name of the garment in which you speak is designed for comfort in areas where temperatures reach in the extreme highs and lows. This dual functionality provides protection from the harsh desert winds and allows for air circulation on the extremely hot days. As heat causes sweat, it is absorbed into the cotton fabric and provides a refreshing coolness against the skin and helps protect against extreme sun and wind burn. They could care less whether or not it looks feminine or masculine. They been wearing this design for centuries and it works for them. It wasn't until Western Civilization put such a "gender appropriate" label on things that people such as yourself even cared about such trivial matters.

The purpose of it is to cover everything else. It is a simple garment the exact same as all the others. No one is rich, powerful, poor or powerless at prayer. Everyone is the same.

depends on the culture where you grew up in. In africa there are some male clothes that look feminine to me.

Yeah, that must be why they grow beards, to butch up their image. Kinda odd considering they wear dresses.
