Sleeping question: I can sleep at night but I'd wake up in the middle of my sleep and cannot go back to sleep

Jose said it: You should see a doctor. Even if it seems like a silly thing to make a trip to see the doctor for, it could be a symptom of something else that is occurring (it isn't uncommon). How long has this been happening? Occasional sleeplessness is normal but if this has been going on a while and/or affects your life in a negative way it could be a sign of something else, even if you aren't aware of these things. Though we aren't doctors, and it could be a number of different things.
If it's just insomnia though, there's a number of natural remedies that might work for you. You can find these things at health stores or your local drug store: Valerian Root, Kava Kava, Tryptophan to name a few.
Drinking alcohol for sleep generally isn't advised, as although it may relax you and cause the onset of sleep to be sooner, it causes wakings later in the night (or morning).
There are other herbs too that I have found highly effective in treating my own insomnia.
"Sleep Hygiene" is always good to practice, too - How light affects your sleep/wake cycles (keeping lights low at a certain time of night close to bed helps reduce these problems), display screens are suggested to be avoided, as it's a lot of light your eyes are taking in, waking up the same time every day (even on weekends), excercise (during the morning or day), avoiding anything too stimulating before bed (caffeine, niccotine, etc). I know I have missed some things. This site has a good list: http://www.sleepfoundation.org/article/ask-the-exp...
I hope you get it sorted out and start sleeping well soon!
Source(s): Experience with Primary Insomnia my whole life. (And having it since birth is apparently rare, so I'm not really a very good example of a large group of people).
