Breeders Cup Tickets?

Just a few questions regarding the Breeders Cup. I don't have the privilege of being American and am rather oblivious when it comes to the Breeders Cup prices and wanted to know how much a standard tats (grandstand) ticket for the Breeders Cup costs. Both days preferable. I understand that it might depend on where the event is being held. I'm curious as I might make the trip over to Santa Anita in 2014 from sunny Southampton. Don't worry about changing prices into sterling. Furthermore, how old does one have to be to place a bet on US racecourses? And finally, does there happen to be a dress code for the event? I have attended Royal Ascot and the Derby in the past where there is a strict dress code but obviously am unaware of any such proceedings in the States. Much obliged.

Charles, if you are serious about attending the Breeders Cup races in 2014, consider booking a tour package. A tour operator is likely to have access to better tickets and will be able to handle accommodations and transportation. You might find it less stressful and more fun, even if you are normally a do-it-yourselfer. Southampton is a long way from Arcadia, California. If you make your own arrangements, you'd have to fly in, rent a car, and find your way to your hotel, all while jet lagged and learning to drive on the right-hand side of the road. Driving in the LA area can be an adventure for visitors. It is easy to get lost, and it is easy to underestimate the time it takes to get anywhere. With a tour, you can settle in at your nice hotel in a nice part of town, get to the races on time, drink if you like, and not worry about locating your car after the races.

Re: dress codes, in general, all that's required is that you meet basic standards of modesty. Certain areas of the track (such as some dining rooms) may have specific requirements; these will be described on the track's website. However, if you choose to dress in jacket and tie you will not be out of place. You won't see morning coats and top hats, though.

In California the minimum age for parimutel betting is 18.

    Breeders Cup Seating Chart

Many of the tickets are sold out, however Grandstand reserved seating on the 3rd floor is still available. Here's the price list/seating chart: http://www.breederscup.com/sites/default/files/tic...

General Admission tickets go on sale on September 30. In a few weeks, they'll offer more information here: http://www.breederscup.com/tickets/general-admissi...

There are some pricy ticket packages available through the Breeders' Cup affiliate: http://quintevents.com/sports-travel/horse-racing/...

To learn more about the tickets, you can also call the Breeders' Cup: 877-936-7183 (California time, which is about 8 hours difference from you).

Here's the ticket main page: http://www.breederscup.com/tickets

and you can plan your visit here: http://www.breederscup.com/plan-your-visit

As for dress, unless you'll be in the clubhouse (unlikely, since the place will be sold out) comfortable clothing and shoes are a must. Weather is usually in the high 70's during the day and the mid-50's at night. Aim for nice daytime wear - a pair of shorts/pants (like dockers) and a collared shirt (like a golf shirt) to be safe. Women can wear nice shorts/pants/skirts and a shirt. Flat shoes or trainers are a must!

If you do plan on visiting, feel free to contact me - I may know of a group that will have seating available at little cost. It's always fun to meet other race fans!
