Why is my dogs skin shedding?

My dog has a light patch of skin that looks like new skin. And around it, it looks like dead skin. Similar to when humans get a sunburn and they peel. Anyone have any clue as to why his skin is doing this?

Update:

I have noticed that it does this every year before the cold months. He has several health problems as well. He has seizures, he is allergic to certain foods like turkey, and I am suspecting he is allergic to his own fur.

my guess is irritation from a bite of some sort. like flee bite. or could be your dog has a minor food allergy which can affect skin health. a little bit of coca butter lotion will help alleviate the symptoms

It could be allergies or just excessive dry skin, either way, dogs don't shed and they don't get sunburn unless they are having an allergic reaction or unless their skin is irritated.

Take him to the Vet if you have concerns.

Any number of things could be causing his skin to do that. Fleas/ticks can damage skin and coat. Allergies of course can cause this, as well as underlying health issues.

it could be soap your using to wash your dog, I was my dog with normal shampoo and she gets flakes. Your dogs skin might be dry try using oatmeal shampoo or baby shampoo it helped my dog.

I am sorry, I don't know anything more than the vet.
