Oil burning problem in a 1984 Kawasaki ZX1100?

I have a low mileage (11,000 miles) 1984 ZX1100 that hasn't been started in many years. I changed the oil, fuel, filters and battery but when driven it burns about a quart of oil in 50 miles. I believe the rings are stuck because smoke comes out of the pipes when accelerating and not when coasting. Is there any product that will free the rings or does it need a rebuild?

agreed with both gentlemen my old bike same story. Only I did my valve seals first (was to lazy to strip the pistons out). she stopped smoking and ran well for bout 3 months, then started smoking again, loosing power and revved up slower then usual. So my rings failed. Best what I did was replaced rings, bearings and valve seals again. She still runs till today without any probs. I know its more money but replace all onetime and safe yourself trouble in the future .Think about it

Listen to Chris, I have a bike that is an 85 modal and being that old I thought it was the rings. I didn't check it before I tore it down and as he said it was only the valve seals that got hard and cracked to let oil run down the valve steams and it smoked super bad. But after I got it apart then i decided to install new sleeves and rings. I thought I was going to have to rob a bank to do it but after 3 months it runs great. If I had done what Chris said it would have cost just a fraction of what I spent.

Any product that you could add to the oil to free the piston rings would free the friction part of your friction plates on the clutch. (might stop the exhaust smoke but you're not going anywhere anyways).

That old of bike that has sat around for a while needs a LOT of attention.....

....so I recommend you have a 'leak-down't test run on the engine, your problem MAY BE just old worn valve guide seals.
