You might be better off trying to have one pig as a "co op" pig. Try and see if you can get several people interested in splitting the cost of buying and raising the pig for a share of the meat. I don't know of anyone who breaks even on pigs or cattle unless they are a larger farm. You might be able to contact your local county agriculture section or local 4H for local information. Have you done research into zoning, feeding, purchase price of pigs yet? You will also need to find a butcher that will take a local pig; you might find one that will butcher for bartering part of the pig. Don't forget your vet costs, feed, cleaning, etc. Is there anyone else in your local area that is selling pig meat? They would be the best person to get costs from and find out where you might be able to sell your pig meat. Just an aside, pigs are alot of work so don't forget to count your labor as one of the costs. You can also go to the county fair and talk to pig owners about what they do, their costs. Usually the 4H kids will have pigs at the fair.
