building a 2000 gallon aquarium?
I want to build an aquarium but i dont want to use acrylic glass because it scratches easy and crazing is hard to fix. i know that acrylic is light and strong, but its not like i am gonna be moving a 2000 gallon aquarium whenever i feel the wind shifts north. Usually, i will let the aquarium stay where it is once it is done with the build. I am ordering a regular cheapest annealed glass for $375 with dimensions 96"x48"x1/2", the aquariums dimensions will be 4 feet wide/deep, 4 feet tall x 8 feet long. using plywood and 2x4s for bracing. the waterproffing will be achieve using a rubber cement.
So here is the question: i dont think that 1/2 inch glass at that size of a tank can hold that water. would it be better or would it be possible to use two of the 1/2 inch glass press together to hold the water, or is it more economical and safer to just order 1"?

From what I am reading, your idea is a little bit bigger than its max. According to a few glass sources, they say for this kind of idea, the glass should not exceed 36'' . Now, I cannot say that I personally have done this at all. However, I would do some more research prior to paying nearly 400 bucks on a piece of glass that may break because it will have 2000 gallons pushing on it.
I do not know if you are making a plywood tank or not, but I can tell from personal stuff, having glass and wood a whole lot different than all glass. Wood bends a lot sooner than glass, so there may be leaks in the near future because of this.
BUT for my personal opinion, 1/2 is WEIGH(Yes pun here, because the weight will be too much for 1/2) too thin for what it needs to be. It should probably be closer to 2 inches. But alas, Acrylic is better ( and can be fixed. It does not scratch that easily. if you've worked with it before than you'd know the truth. Its an overall better product compared to glass. )
