At Matthew 7:21 Jesus said that not everyone saying, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom. Just those?

doing the will of my father. Who did he mean by that and what is the will of God?

Good question, Linda. I've searched the scriptures for what Jesus taught as requirements for salvation. Here's what I found:

    1. REPENTANCE. Luke 13:3: “But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

    2. BAPTISM. John 3: “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again . . . I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”

    3. BELIEVING JESUS. Mark 16:16: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

    4. FIDELITY TO GOD’S MORAL STANDARDS. Matt 5:20:
”For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”

    5. CHARITABLE ACTION. Matt 25: ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world . . . I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me. . . . I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

    6. EATING THE BREAD OF LIFE. John 6: Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.”

    7. STANDING FIRM TO THE END. Matt 24:12-13: “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

So to be saved, we have to follow Jesus' directions for salvation. It's an easy yoke and a light burden, but it takes more than lip service.

I often think of that scripture in connection with the post-Christian mainstream Protestant churches that promote abortion and homosexuality against the teachings of Jesus. I imagine them calling out to Jesus in the final judgment and getting just such a rebuff.

    Cheers,

It is not enough for us to say we believe in Christ and then do what we think is right. It is absolutely necessary that we find out what God’s will is on the matter. Jesus showed this in his Sermon on the Mount when he said: “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.”—Matthew 7:21.

We could even be doing what we believe to be “good deeds,” and be doing these in the name of Christ. Yet all of these would be of no value if we failed to do God’s will. We would be in the position of the ones Christ next mentions: “Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness.” (Matthew 7:22, 23) Yes, we can be doing things that we think are good—and for which other humans may thank us and even praise us—but if we fail to do what God says is right we will be regarded by Jesus Christ as “workers of lawlessness.”

Since many religions today are not doing God’s will, we cannot simply assume that the teachings of the religious organization we are associated with are in agreement with God’s Word. The mere fact that the Bible is used by a religion does not of itself prove that all the things it teaches and practices are in the Bible. It is important that we ourselves examine whether they are or not. Persons in the city of Beroea were commended because, after the Christian apostle Paul preached to them, they checked the Scriptures to make sure that the things he was telling them were true. (Acts 17:10, 11) The religion that is approved by God must agree in every way with the Bible; it will not accept certain parts of the Bible and reject other parts.—2 Timothy

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom. The Lord has shown that the entrance into the kingdom is through the "strait gate." He now shows more particularly what is needed to enter. Certain ones are described who cannot enter in. "Not every one" implies that some who say, "Lord, Lord," etc., shall enter in. Those enter who do the will of my Father. No one can be a citizen of the kingdom who does not obey the King.

Men are to be judged of, not by their words only, but by their principles and conduct. They must obey the revealed will of God, and to be accepted of him, must do it with the heart. The only sure test of true religion is the doing of the known will of God.

Not everyone claiming a relationship with God enters, but

those who do the will of the Father...and it says to

believe on Him whom God has sent...

this is the will of the Father...to believe in the Son, which

means to follow and believe what the Son says to do.

Those with the Holy Spirit will do the will of God as the Holy Spirit instructed that true world peace (Luke 2:14) under Jesus will be established.

There are many do's and don't in the Bible, but the details of the will of God come through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Say you have an old parent. Would you open the bottle for him, or would you let him exercise his hands by opening the bottle himself so that he remains healthy? how about next time? You need to be in tune with the Holy Spirit to know it, by inspiration.

We may ask this question first; What is the Father's will for us as his followers?

Many people in various religions will say that they are doing God's will but as the NWT bible states (prove false to it's power). Therefore, if you read further in the chapter you see that the whole thing highlights that there will be many that will not be saved because their heart is not pure as far as their worship to Him. This is why it is CRITICAL to have a thorough Bible Study and make sure for yourself.

For true Christians, doing God’s will is a lifelong endeavor. It begins with basic steps which include , sharing in the preaching work, and advancing to baptism. As progress is made, we bear in mind the apostle Paul’s words: “Ponder over these things; be absorbed in them, that your advancement may be manifest to all persons.” (1 Timothy 4:15)

Such advancement is not self-promotion but a reflection of our determination to do God’s will unselfishly. Taking such a course shows that we allow God to guide our steps in all matters of life, and he does so infinitely better than we could ever do.—Psalm 32:8.

Hesitation or too much self-concern in ourselves, however, can be an impediment to our making progress in our service to God. (Ecclesiastes 11:4)

The will of the Father is to be worshipped alone without partners or equals!

As Jesus said in many places:

    (1) "... for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. [John 4:23]

    (2) "'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'" [Matthew 4:10]

    (3) "Jesus answered, 'The first is, “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall *love the Lord your God with all your heart*...[Mark 12:29-32]

    (4) "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent". [John 17:3]

The most significant is Jesus warning in Matthew 7:23 - And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Which the last Prophet also repeated (as Jesus prophesied - he will take what is mine and remind you - John 16:15, and will tell you of things to come - John 16:13)

    >>>(On the day) when those who were followed disown those who followed (them), and they behold the doom, and all their aims collapse with them. [Qur'an 2:166]

I know I'm right about this. So, be severe to me about being confident, or perhaps consider what I'm saying here.

Jesus is talking about those who think that their works are so impressive, "God even knows it" they might think. They have so much faith in their works for God, they fail to trust God in any of them. The will of the Father is what we are supposed to be doing, but our trust is supposed to be in him, not in our works.

    So it says,

22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

All those works they had faith in weren't what God wanted from them. They failed to even adhere to what CHrist said was binding to the contract of the covenant!

So, they failed forever. That is why I am against people being CHristian who just start to go with the flow of ministry, without having spent the time to connect with God and seek his will. The spiritual upbringing and maturation will only occur when a person takes personal time to connect with God.

it is very simple. Those that do the will of God as spelled out in the bible very clearly. If you keep the commandment you will be loved by my father. Also those that worship in spirit and in truth. The will of God is all over the bible... Love thy neighbor, be patient, feed the poor, be wise, etc. Amen
