why wasn't mark twain's "huckleberry finn" a racist novel?
jim's and huck's friendship, obviously, but what are some other factors?
also; to "lynn",
what's the point of responding to this post if you had no intentions of answering my question? and who said i was doing homework?
I am genuinely curious over the controversy of racism in huck finn. i just read the book for the first time, did some research on it, and wanted to hear other people's opinions. i've had enough of your condescending and, quite frankly, rude attitude. if you didn't like my question and didn't want to answer, then you shouldn't have answered it. simple as that.
and yes, i reported your answer, as you repeatedly harassed me.
next time think twice before you try to use your "i'm better than you" attitude via yahoo answers.
stop taking yahoo answers so seriously.

Since you aren't taking the hint, we don't do homework for students. That's why you got six answers last time that taught you nothing. We'll answer. We just don't do your homework for you. (It would have been quicker had you caught on the first time. It would have been quicker had you realized, if you're too lazy to do it, why would anyone do it for you? No one else is motivated.)
Since you're pretending you never asked before and pretending no one will notice you're trying to get others to do YOUR homework for you, here are the answers you got last time you tried to get us to do your homework, minus the idiot's answer:
No
And no one in their right mind would.
You would be flouting an ignorance unworthy of you.
Why would you even suggest such a thing?
No.These political correct people are so idiotic,er I mean mentally challenged.Ever tried playing Cowboys and Native Americans? Does not work
no.
twain wrote in the period in which he lived. the racial elements in huck finn were a reflection of the reality of the times.
some would argue that this novel condemns racism, by accurately reporting the treatment of african-americans as second-class citizens.
No. It doesn't need an explanation. It's a part of their culture, that's how America was back then.
No, actually antiracism. Explain? If you read the book you'd know and this isn't MY homework.

I haven't read it. I guess there are some racist slurs used in the course of the book. Even though I haven't read it, I'm inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt and say it is likely that it was written in a way, as someone else suggested, that is indicative of the times. The slurs were likely used in context of the story and didn't just come out of the blue and seem tacked on for the sake of having racist characters. I have such an issue with a more modern writer. Racist slurs are often used gratuitously and have no bearing or importance on the rest of the story and things like this are included quite often in his works. Having only read a few things from Mark Twain, I know that racism isn't an ongoing theme in his work. It relates to maybe one or two of his books. While racism is a part of our world, I don't find it necessary to focus on just that when writing, and how "there's one in every group," or something. Always having to return to that lacks a certain imagination.
