Are Olympic gold medals made of solid gold?

And silver medals made of solid silver, etc.

    Nope. The last Olympic gold medal that was actually made from solid gold, was in 1912. Now, gold and silver medals are 92.5% silver and gold ones have to be plated with at least 6 grams of gold.

    gold medal is made up of silver but only covered with gold.and silver medal has the same composition as the gold medal without the gilding.
