It started during the WW2 when fabric was rationed. Some designer invented the bikini as a way to save money and it became a hit. The bikinis got smaller and more revealing as time went on as society became desensitized. I don't wear bikinis to the beach because I feel that I am too chubby for one. But I have self confidence issues. The bikini is pretty standard swimming attire. Most women don't really put much thought into it. They just want to swim an cool off. Also, shops don't sell very cute one pieces like they used to, so for young people, bikinis are the only option. Some women like to wear bikinis because they feel sexy and know they look good. No shame in that.

I wear bikinis because that's what we wear to the beach. The bikini is the standard swimsuit. I don't look so good in a bikini and I wear it for me. I feel like I fit in better. And I can tan. Bikinis are more stylish than hideous tankinis and one piece suits. I got a tankini last summers ago when I got really fat because I felt like I shouldn't wear a bikini anymore, but I wore the tankini only once because I felt really uncomfortable in it and just went back to wearing my bikinis.
